Welcome to the House of yay!
Home of soulful, funky, disco house grooves.
djrobyay is a rising star in the house music scene, hailing from Las Vegas with a passion for creating funky, soulful, and disco-infused mixes.
rob was introduced to house music in 1995 at Junior Vasquez's legendary Tunnel events in New York City. The infectious energy of the scene left a lasting impression, and he continued to explore the underground desert party scene in Southern California.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Dylan Drazen, Mark Farina, and Joe D'Espinosa, rob has been honing his new craft in private and for friends. Now, he's ready to take his talents to the next level, seeking opportunities to spin publicly in LGBT-friendly spaces. His sets are characterized by their high-energy, feel-good vibes.
With a deep love for the genre and a dedication to his craft, this new comer is poised to make a big impact on the house music scene. Keep an eye out for djrobyay as he brings his unique sound to a club or festival near you!
Welcome to the fourth and final installment of my funky, soulful, and disco-inspired xxxmas sets! It's been a great pleasure sharing these tracks with you, and I hope they've brought a little bit of joy and festivity to your holiday season.
The final track on this playlist really pushed my emotional buttons a bit as I listened to it. Judy... she just made me feel all the feels. I hope it has a similar (if also gentler) effect on you, and that it brings a sense of peace and hope to your holiday season (cuz that's really what I'm trying to find in it!).
Thank you again for being a part of my community, and for allowing me to share my love of music with you. And thank you for letting me share the season with you in this very special way, even from very far away. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, and a happy and healthy new year.

Disco: The Heartbeat of House Music
Disco, the genre that never dies, has been a driving force in the evolution of house music. Its influence is inescapable, and for me, it's more than just a genre - it's a way of life. As a long-time lover of disco, I knew that getting a disco-themed tattoo was the right next step for me. But why?
First and foremost, disco's impact on house music cannot be overstated. The genre's emphasis on strong beats, catchy melodies, and soulful vocals has shaped the sound of house music as we know it today. From the iconic divas of the 70s to the contemporary artists keeping the genre alive, disco's influence is felt throughout the house music scene.
Personally, I've always been drawn to the big gurl vocals and solid instrumentals that define disco. The genre's ability to make me feel empowered and unstoppable is unparalleled. Whether I'm dancing the night away or simply listening to my favorite tracks, disco always puts me in the right mood.
To celebrate my love for disco and its influence on house music, I compiled this set of some of my current favorite tracks. From Purple Disco Machine to Suki Soul and Escort, these artists embody the spirit of disco and its continued relevance in the music scene today.
As I lay in the tattoo chair, listening to these tracks and feeling the beat of the needle, I knew that this was more than just a tattoo - it was a declaration of my commitment to the groove. Disco has been a constant source of joy and inspiration in my life, and now, it would be forever etched on my skin.
So, if you're a fellow disco lover or just a fan of great music, I encourage you to give these tracks a listen. Let the beat take over, and let the magic of disco fill your heart and soul. And who knows - maybe you'll find yourself getting a disco-themed tattoo too!
Tattoo work done by Kayla Talastas at Black Sacrament Tattoo in Las Vegas. She's AMAZINGLY gentle, by the way! Cannot recommend highly enough.

Normally, xxxmas music is about as far from my musical wheelhouse as music gets. The saccharine melodies, the overplayed classics, the relentless cheer – it's enough to make me want to go on a mad stabbing rampage. But this year, something different happened.
Having been asked to prepare a holiday set, a spark of rebellion ignited within me. Instead of allowing my friends to succumb to predictable holiday tunes, I decided to unleash a sonic storm of soulful funk and disco, all with a decidedly xxxmas twist.. It wasn't about hating on tradition, but rather about breathing new life into it, maybe even infusing it with the infectious energy of the dance floor.
This is part two in a series of what I currently expect to be at least three, maybe as many as five total sets. So, if you're tired of the same old xxxmas tunes, keep listening. I'm still just getting started.

If you know me, you'll know that I'm not exactly a xxxmas music enthusiast (to put it delicately), but I was asked by some friends if I could prepare a set for the holiday season. I took it as another opportunity to showcase the diversity of my musical tastes.
I rummaged through an extensive collection of tracks and handpicked a little more than a hundred that I think tell a fun and personal story. While some may be more obvious choices, a majority were new discoveries (or, more fun: rediscoveries) for me. However, they all share a common thread that reflects my musical preferences and journey. If you listen closely, you might just be able to decipher a tale about me hidden within the tracks.
I'm excited to share this xxxmas set with you. I'm planning to break it into a few parts to keep things interesting (and to follow Mixcloud posting rules!). Each set will take a different path through my musical journey, so stay tuned for more! This is just a taste of what's to come.

As a child of the 70s and 80s, I have always been drawn to the soulful sounds of the 60s and 70s. The raw emotion, the groovy beats, and the powerful lyrics of these tracks have always inspired me, and they shape the way I make music today.
In this collection of sets, I spin some of my favorite soul tracks from the 60s and 70s that have been a constant source of motivation and inspiration for me. From the smooth, sultry sounds of Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin, to the funky, upbeat grooves of James Brown and Earth, Wind & Fire, these tracks have been a driving force behind my own musical history.
So come on and join me on a journey through the sounds of the past, and let's see where the music takes us!

So, a buddy of mine asked me to put together a groovy ’Motown-inspired’ set for him, and I was like, ’Hell yeah, let’s do this!’ He threw out some legendary names like The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, and Earth Wind & Fire. I was excited to take on a different kind of challenge, but then I started to feel a bit anxious as I curated the tracks. You see, old Motown jams don’t quite follow the same rules as modern tunes, and there aren’t many intros or outros to work with. Plus, they’re often super recognizable from the very first beat (take: ’I Heard it Through the Grapevine’). But I think I’ve got a decent first pass here. Gonna have him check it out and see if it meets what he had in mind. If you like this, stay tuned for more like it to come.

I came back from Fort Lauderdale with a whole new set of skills. Dylan spent several hours with me, showing me the processes and techniques he uses. I was very excited to learn that we did a lot of things similarly - it was exciting because nobody specifically taught me to do things the way I did... so it was kinda cool to learn that I instinctively did things similar to how someone with 30 years of experience does it.
I feel like my transitions really started maturing with this set. Probably the biggest issue remaining now (other than rushing like a seventeen year old having sex for the first time - which is why it took me four tries to get through this set without making any painful errors!) is that I’m still really learning my music library, so my sequencing is pretty much random. Once I start thoughtfully and carefully planning out sets, this shit’ll be insane.

So this is pretty exciting: this was my very first time performing live in front of strangers.
The event was organized by the folks who started teaching me how to work with modern DJ equipment and software, and featured other graduates of the program.
Unfortunately, I had only thirty minutes. And I was getting on an airplane first thing the next morning, to go hear my friend Dylan Drazen spin a fierce classic 90s house set in Fort Lauderdale, so I couldn’t even stay to hear everyone play.
But... that was fucking addictive! It’s a damn shame I had such a short time slot! I could have played for hours.
Extra special thanks to Diesel, Hannah, Suwasit, and Tiffany for coming out and supporting me at my very first performance! It meant fucking everything to me.

Three sets in one week. I really was feeling good about myself! I thought that shit was gonna keep up, and I’d end up hitting my goal of 80 hours of content within a month!
But, yanno.. that’s not really what happened.
Whether because I felt burned out after doing so much in September, or because I got lazy, or whatever, I just wasn’t feeling up to it for around a month. I kept experimenting with new tracks, but nothing really excited me.
This set, however, felt really great. I am SO FUCKING IN LOVE with Suki Soul. Every single time I hear Wear it Out, I feel happy.

Three sets in one week. I was feeling so fucking good about myself!
I set myself a goal of posting 80 hours of sets to Mixcloud before I would start really pushing myself hard onto people. I reasoned this amount of content based on Mixcloud’s "maximum three plays in fourteen days" policy for free users.. I want people to be able to play me on a constant loop, unrestricted! I was really driving myself hard toward that goal, this week!

Emboldened by the work I’d done in recent days, I kept creating. I really wanted to try playing with tracks that I think of as more "later in the night" - less fully vocal and traditionally instrumental, more vocal samples and electronic instrumentals - if only to prove to myself that I could mix something that wasn’t big girl diva house.
I think a lot of these tracks still push up against that big girl diva line, but it’s much more of a techy feel than I usually find myself playing. I like it. I want to do more like this!

Working on the Raining Man set got me excited, but then Funky Friday Disco really pushed me over.
With this set, I was again experimenting with a bunch of new tracks.
In the end, it had a decent groove, and I thought it might make a good tool for dispelling that Monday feeling.

Working on the Raining Man set got me excited, but it was a pretty lazy set - I barely even mixed any of the tracks together. So I really wanted to do something that could actually show what I could do.
With this set, I was experimenting with a bunch of new tracks that I hadn’t played with at all. Like the Raining Man set, most of the tracks had no cue points, so I was kinda jazzing it up.

I went to Burning Man for the first time this year, and (as you may know, since it was so well dramatized by our media) we were rained out. That was kind of a bummer, but, yanno, shit happens. I kinda wish I had brought my gear with me when I went, so that I could have put together this set on the playa, rather than later at home. But it’s still entirely inspired by the unexpectedly wet desert weather.
It was hard to dance in the mud, so I didn’t want it to be explicitly dance heavy. But I wanted something light to break up the silence. This is the set I needed to hear.
I selected tracks having to do with water or weather - rain, rivers, flood, clouds, sun - either in the track title or performer’s name. The especially fun part was that I had never played most of the tracks I ultimately used, tho they were in my library. In fact, only two tracks had preset cue points (Rain on Me, and Let the Sun Shine), which is frankly why I let the tracks run through to their ends so often. It genre hops wildly. It’s a very lazy mix, if I’m being completely honest. Even still, I think it communicates a lot of complex emotion. And I think it would have been well received by a bunch of unexpectedly wet desert party people.
I was pleased with how it came out, so I decided to share it.
